The INNER Self

The INNER self is the most base layer of the self. You may think of philosopher Renee Descartes and his famous “I think therefore I am”. This layer is composed of solely what we think of ourselves. Free from outside influences such as relationships or the divine. Our inner dialogue and most personal thoughts.

TRUE SELF

I see myself as a conglomeration of multiple identities. In simple terms, I view myself wearing many hats. I am a worker, a designer, a programmer, a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a friend. Yet none f those things define me wholly. Who am I? I am Matt Schultz. I believe that I am unique, even in my shared experience with others.

This photo displays how I view INNER self. At the core, I am myself. Yet I see these versions of myself around me. This photo was captured completely in camera, no digital manipulation.

ALGORITHMIC SELF

As much as I see nuance in myself, the algorithm does not. It has broken my INNER self into binary parts. Either a 1 or a 0, nothing in-between. The algorithm does not care about nuance or depth, merely numbers in a formula and how to adjust those numbers to better serve its goal. To the algorithm, you are merely another number and cog in the never ending machine.

This is a binary representation of the INNER True Self. I pixelated that photo into blocks, then converted the RGB codes into 8 bit binary. Each block represents a color of the pixel.

    The FRAMEWORK.

Awareness and education is half the battle, but without an attack plan knowledge is useless. You have realized how the algorithm is influencing you, but how can you fight back? Post—Machine has created a framework that is repeatable and acts as a soft reset of your idea of self. Walk through the framework and reclaim your self.
